Breaches and security incidents are becoming more common every year.

Perhaps you have read a notice similar to this: ‘Incident response is not only an IT problem, it’s a business problem. How prepared are you and your organization for a potential attack?’

Except, it’s not a business problem. It is a human intelligence problem. Every year, we have seen an increase in the costs associated with security increase.

As a freelancer assisting independent sole proprietors with intrusions, public affairs and marketing issues, the team fronted by John Aron of Aronetics, missed the typical eight hour sleep and on the drive from Cleveland to Columbus to attend Ohio Linux Fest. At the beginning of the drive it dawned on John of a new tactic that would solve the larger cyber security issues. While enterprise tools are not available to sole proprietors, larger firms use splunk or logrhythm, the government agencies use arcsight or sumologic and regardless of the tool or absence of a tool, intrusions continue often unnoticed for months or years. Current tools are a decade old or more. Each tool is a self titled ‘industry leader.’ When we shared a presentation with the second director of CTIIC, Erin Joe was aghast at this particular slide that rings true: these United States are in the grip of an advanced cyber security threat.

Zero Trust is touted around the country as is the implementation of 2FA (two factor authentication) as two solutions. In the case that you nearly missed it the third week of January 2020, 2FA is still found to be insecure.
