State Senator Theresa Gavarone April 3 announced her legislation to create the Ohio Cyber Reserve—a new division of the Ohio National Guard that specializes in cyber security. Senator Gavarone is correct that “Cyber attacks are a growing threat, and will only continue to become more complex and dangerous.”

Aronetics opposed this legislation to create a Ohio Cyber Reserve because the efforts to “make the security and integrity of our elections a top priority” is a new force that will consist of qualified, civilian cyber security experts from the Ohio National Guard that will maintain regional Cyber Response Teams capable of deterring, mitigating, and remedying cyber-attacks against our local governments, businesses, critical infrastructure and citizens. Two weeks of training and one weekend a month, to deter, mitigate and remedy cyber-attacks is a paper tiger.
